French actress, singer and model who became the global face of the 1950s and 60s. Brigitte Bardot was often referred to by her initials B.B. She was a cultural lightning rod, personifying the sexual revolution and “absolute freedom” before abruptly retiring at the height of her fame to become a fierce animal rights activist. Her legacy is deep but complex.
